Committed

So I finally got around watching Why Did I Get Married Too? The film is now available on dvd. I was eager to see how this sequel would hold up to the original and I was pleasantly surprised; but not that much. For one, all the main actors from the first movie were on board for the sequel. It has been a few years since we last saw them and they’ve all gone through changes. Tyler Perry and Sharon Leal’s characters now have kids and seem happier. Jill Scott and Lamman Rucker’s characters have relocated to Georgia with a baby. Malik Yoba and Janet Jackson’s characters are still married but body language says a lot. Tasha Smith and Michael J. White’s characters are still as dysfunctional and loud as ever. However, White’s character now has a steady job as a sportscaster.

Much like the previous Tyler Perry films without Madea, everyone is not leading the life they want their friends to see; they all have something to hide. Their annual couple’s retreat has a crasher; Richard T. Jones, who now realizes he let go of a great woman (Jill Scott’s character) and wants her back. Why now? That’s revealed much later in the film.
I felt that these couples were handed too many obstacles. Does everyone’s marriage have to be falling apart? Isn’t there one couple actually happy? A few performances stood out to me. Angela (Tasha Smith) brought on all the laughs but unlike the first film, she went way overboard with her over-the-top antics. Sidenote: The actress has a body to die for!

Patricia (Janet Jackson) really moved me. Much of this is to be credited to Janet Jackson. Her breakdown scenes alone are worth the admission price to this film. For the first time I actually saw Janet Jackson as an actress. I also couldn’t help but wonder if she taped the scenes before or after her famous brother’s death. Patricia, in my opinion, went through too much in one lifetime. The loss of a child, now a divorce and the surprise ending that I don’t want to spoil for anyone who hasn’t watched the film. This is definitely one of Perry’s stronger films.

Pissing off the fans

As a little black girl attending an American all-girls Catholic school in Tokyo, there were five acts I wanted to see live in no particular order:
  1. Madonna
  2. New Kids on the Block
  3. Janet Jackson
  4. Michael Jackson
  5. Bon Jovi
Fast forward to 2010 and I've only managed 2 out of 5. I've seen NKOTB twice and Madonna twice. The second time I saw Madonna I had no shame in paying more than $300. It was worth every darn penny! I came close to seeing Janet Jackson if you remember. Michael Jackson unfortunately passed way before his time and before I was able to see him concert. Still very very bitter at you dad and mom that I missed out on seeing him for a school trip back during his Bad tour, but I digress. Last on the list is Bon Jovi.

Bon Jovi has been touring a lot lately. I have been trying to see them in concert for a few years now. Problem? Well, I like seats where I can see the artists features without the aid of binoculars. The other problem? Getting a decent seat is $530. I'm a regular Jane, earning less-than-I-would-like salary and live for music and all things entertainment. So to ask me to pay $530 for a ticket is asking me to slap my momma silly; both of which I would not do because I have common sense. After fans bitterly complained about the O2 Arena concert ticket prices in London, Jon Bon Jovi replied,

"Those tickets are a couple of special package tickets. I don't really know what they are, they could be anything. It may be that you get everything and it may be 20 tickets. But it ain't the front row and it ain't the front section. It's certainly not gipping (conning) anyone else out of anything."

So I decided to check my area's ticket prices and this is what ticketmaster says:

Don't know about you but I see a front row seat package for $1,857 that doesn't even allow me backstage! Tsk! There are obviously fans who can afford that but why alienate long time, hard core fans with such high prices?

Janet, Please Go On Tour?!

Posted by Jay at 4:24 PM 0 comments
Me, Number 1 Janet Jackson fan. However, my attending a Janet Jackson concert has proved to be as elusive as Boone getting of the island. (That's a character from Lost for those living under a rock). The last time I had tickets for a Janet Jackson concert, I even won backstage passes. I broke out into my happy dance in my cubicle. No, you do not want to witness the Happy Dance. But alas, it was not to be. Janet canceled and I was heartbroken again.

Janet, if you are reading this, please go on tour again? I saw you on the American Idol finale. You rock! Forget a new album; go on a nostalgia tour! You look awesome! Sis, what do you think?
